The 6th edition of the European Pharmacopoeia came into force on 1 January 2008 and consists of a two-volume main edition. It is updated on a regular basis with a series of eight non-cumulative supplements available by 2010.

This publication forms Supplement 4 to the 6th edition. It is published in accordance with the Convention on the elaboration of a European pharmacopoeia (European treaty series no. 50). It is a non-cumulative supplement, published in January 2009.

Supplement 6.4 contains updates to the text of the main edition, such as new and revised general chapters and monographs. It also includes detail on chapters and monographs that have been deleted.
